| PRELIMINARY HUNT The 2008 KI Hunt Club season started with the Preliminary Hunt held at the Harriet Springs property of Kingsley and Shirley Pledge. The members of the Pledge family and Hunt Club had done a great job previously rebuilding many of the jumps that were burnt during the December fires. The day got off to an unexpected start when Shirley was bitten by an unknown insect, causing a rather severe reaction. Hope you’re feeling better Shirley. We had a great roll up of spectators and riders with twelve in the field including three new riders. Tony Blight, our new master, did a great job very capably leading the field and all riders commented on the great pace he set. Well done Tony. New to the field were David, Rachel and Angela and hopefully all three will become regulars to the field. Black armbands were worn by all in memory of Ed Nitschke, a long time member and supporter of the KI Hunt Club. The Hunt was dedicated to his memory, an event I’m sure he would have truly appreciated. The run was dusty in parts, hopefully it’s the only dry and dusty hunt we have this season. It would be great to see vehicles bogged in mud not sand (wouldn’t it Coombey!!). The Crooked Horse Show was won by Nathan, doing a terrific job on his new horse that has only recently come off the racetrack and hadn’t seen a jump till the day. Coombe’y won the Spectators Award for his aforementioned episode in the sand. The new garage was admired – the old shed being burnt down in the fires. Thanks Pledges for getting it up in time!! |
