| Pony people join hunt club crew The Hunt Club met at Robert and Lyn Coombe’s Birchmore property on Sunday June 22. Riders from Pony Club were invited to ride the first paddock. With guidance from Master Tony Blight and Pony Club President Annette Florance, the ten young riders thoroughly enjoyed jumping fallen logs and crossing through the creeks on their ponies whilst the rest of the hunt field patiently followed behind. Having attended to their ponies the youngsters then proceeded to follow the hunt field in vehicles meeting up at Stirrup Cup where we all toasted the landholders and enjoyed a welcome rest. It was fantastic to see Lindy Muecke out riding for the first time. Lindy and her family have been keen followers this year. Lacey Joseph, home from Queensland was left wondering what horse sister Carmen had given her to ride, after ‘Mystery’ layed down to roll. Carly Hammat handled her mount ‘Smilie’ with great skill as he charged along strongly through the field. Emily Larcombe and ‘Archie’ were going along nicely. Emily determined to win the bet she had with Roger, something about staying on! Rachael made the most of the only stirrup cup of the afternoon ensuring that her ‘Rybena’ levels were adequate for the run home. After a friendly reminder from Sue to Roger about what happens when a beehive in a jump is disturbed by one of the leading horses, it was decided to bypass the tyre jump altogether. Heading home along the edge of the scrub, Master Tony’s horse ‘Blaze’ stopped dead in his tracks, gravity winning out, but Tony’s feet had barely touched the ground before he was back in the saddle and on his way again. Rachael wasn’t so quick to get back on after crashing over a spread from a standing start, losing her stirrup from her saddle in the process. Nathan was riding ‘Empire Lee’ for the first time, having come from the racetrack. Nathan was pleased with his attitude towards hunting. Back to the floats, the thirteen riders thanked the Master for a great ride. Master responded by thanking all riders for a great days’ hunting, then reminded everyone about the dawn hunt next week at Damian and Annette Florance’s property ‘Vivonne Heights’. Jessica Lovering, on behalf of the Pony Club thanked the Hunt Club for the invitation to ride at the hunt. Horses were attended to, then everyone gathered for drinks and nibbles when President Robert Benny expressed his appreciation to Robert and Lyn for providing their property and preparing such a great hunt course. Robert then mentioned that it was David and Lorraine’s wedding anniversary and we all sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Nathan. Quite a few fines were given out and the crooked horseshoe was awarded to Rachael for her crash. The spectator’s award went to Lyn for her navigation advice to Robert. Pony Club riders were all awarded a participation Certificate signed by the Master, but the children were slow to come up to receive them as they were busily building a mini hunt course around the Coombe’s yard. A great day was had by all. Rough Shod Comments |
