Hunt Report - Sunday 27th Jul 2008
Ti Tree
Ti Tree Hunt

We arrived at Ti-Tree property of David and Nell Hall on Sunday morning to steady rain. This delayed the start of the Hunt, but no one was complaining as we enjoyed the warmth of the fire or sheltered in the new shed. Tony, who has recently been away hunting with the Adelaide Hunt Club, told us of his experiences hunting with hounds and actually chasing foxes.

The weather eased enough for the riders to mount and begin the hunt. The Benney car tried to lead us astray through the wrong gate, but Nell to the rescue put us on the right track and did a great job of being chief gate opener all day (she was rewarded with lollies). The course meandered through the paddocks filled with sheep and cattle, twelve horses and riders enjoying the jumps and ten vehicles packed with kids followed. At one stage we thought Annette and Rodger where holding hands over a jump, but if turned out Annette was pushing Rodger back into the saddle to save him from falling off.

At Stirrup Cup we were spoiled with great nibbles and local port to warm us. We watched the black clouds heading towards us and toasted the landholders. We are lucky to have such a great course in the middle of winter; it is firm underfoot no matter how wet it gets.

We all enjoyed the trip home as the skies cleared to a sunny afternoon. It is great to see the Pony Club kids out again this week; they have a ball together and show great horsemanship skills (they too had a few lollies at the gate stops).

Back at the shed we shared a savoury platter lunch and a chat. Rachael received too many fines to mention, Lucille won the crooked horseshoe for riding capably on her horse Tequila and Annette won the lucky squares.

The next Hunt is at St Ives on August 10th 1.45pm, please bring afternoon tea. The Masters Dinner is on August 16th and is taking on a nautical theme. Please contact Tony Blight ASAP to confirm if you will be coming sailing or attending the dinner.
