Hunt Report - Sunday 28th Sep 2008
Dumfries/Vivonne Heights
It was a good day and a sad day, knowing that it was our last hunt for the season. It was an early start, riding out at 10:00am at the beautiful Vivonne Bay Heights property of Annette and Damien Florance.
It was a still and sunny morning and Jessica and Cameron drove me around the course early trying to impress, with the four wheel drive experience and top gate opening. Well done crew!

After a taste of the opening toast, we were off well ahead of the large car following. With a couple of good stretched canters, we were well warmed up for jump number two.

I was very impressed with Sue Trethewey for rolling up and riding due to her encounter with the floor the night before. It was a good role up even though we had a few apologies.

After the yakka jump and a few more logs, we found our way to the burning fire and our stirrup cup stop. Carmen toasted to the property owners, and Karen Hammat had still totally drenched joddies from trying to ride through the dam after all the jumps around the banks - the fire proved a good thing to dry her out.

We set a good pace then, finding our way through the maze of jumps on the hill and then to the famous water jump.

This water jump is a haven for photographers as cantering through the water and jumping is a scenic spectacular. We then found the race track and hit it at an even faster pace, and I heard Jessica even yell out “slow down” as there was a road approaching. All in hand Jess!

We made our way back to the floats after some good rail jumps. Fines and presentations were made at Florance’s shed. Damien won the stirring wheel trophy for attempting to drive through the water jump, Angela had thoughtfully taken the crooked horse shoe to Kaiwarra but we will present it back to her.

After the formalities, we all headed with horses to Kaiwarra Food Barn to see Luke and the crew for our final wing ding and lunch for 2008. We enjoyed fantastic food with the great friendly atmosphere that Kaiwarra is known for, and we thanked them for their hospitality.

It’s been a great year and a big one, with fantastic support from riders and followers and from committee members who make it all possible.

We have had so much follow up positive feedback from mainland clubs about our South Australian combined hunt run this year. KI Hunt Club can be proud of what we have achieved as a club and the support for our working bees.

See you in 2009.
