| No halfway measures The 2009 Kangaroo Island Hunt Club season got off to a great start with the Preliminary Hunt held at HalfWay, property of Robert and Lyn Coombe. Nine riders took to the field with several carloads of followers. An overcast day with little breeze made for great riding conditions. Hopefully soon the horses will be splashing through water and mud! It was great to see Don McBeth out riding with the Hunt Club for the first time on ‘Call me Al’. The last time ‘Call me Al’ saw other horses was at the track at the races. Don did a fantastic job, getting such a green horse to hunt so capably. He was a very deserving winner of the Crocked Horse Shoe at the end of the day. The Trethewey clan was out in force with Richard, Suzanne and Nathan all riding. President Nathan welcomed all to the start of the 2009 Hunt Season, before handing over to our Master for this season Tony Blight. Master Tony was on Pontiac and lead the field well, setting a good steady pace. One jump was obviously looked a little too intimating for ‘Pontiac’ at first glance, but at the second attempt he cleared it. Alisha was on lovely new grey horse ‘Rhapsody’. They looked a great team with lots of future, hope we get to see you at many Hunts this year. Two stirrup cups were held to give horses (and riders) a breather and to enable just a bit of socializing to occur whilst the views were admired. Then it was back to the house for some welcome afternoon tea and the awarding of prizes. The Spectator Steering Wheel was won by the Ward family for mis-cueing the fence adjacent to the creek line. Goodies Galore have kindly donated a great sponsorship package to the Hunt Club. At every Hunt a members name will be drawn out of the hat and the lucky winner will get a $20 voucher to be spend at Goodies Galore. Next hunt will be the Opening Hunt to be held at Attarrak on the 3rd May. The day will start with lunch at noon and then the Hon. Vicki Chapman MP will officially open the Hunt for the 2009 season.. Come along to the Opening Hunt and find out for yourself what all the fun is about. New members are welcome to join at any time. You don’t have to be a rider or even own a horse, feel free to just come along and have a great day out. See you soon. Tow Rope |
